Dragon Boating
Want to learn?
Have you ever watched the Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival and wished you could join in on the fun? Well, you can!
The SCC dragon boat team is called the SCC Phoenix. Although we aren’t competing this year are still actively practicing. Our boat has room for 20 paddlers plus a drummer and steersperson. The drummer is a ceremonial position that also helps keep the cadence of our strokes. The steersperson is the command caller and steers the boat.
Lessons
There's just one major stroke to learn (two if you count reverse!), so don't be shy!
We train on Tuesday and Thursdays, starting at 6:30pm.
All experience levels are welcome!
Races
Current 2022 season races planned:
none
You must be 12 years or older to paddle in a race.
Equipment
We supply paddles and lifejackets, though if you have your own, please bring them!
Coaches
Ian McIvor
Ian started paddling in 2004 with the festival team for his employer, Hatch. Four years later he joined the SCC Phoenix, and in 2012 became the co-captain of the boat. He is currently working on obtaining his Level 2 Dragon Boat coaching certification.
